Hoooo! Its Cosmocats... err I mean Thundercat Art!I

A while back I drew the sword of Omens at work. While it isn't perfect(or striaght, hey I'm not a artist) it did come out better than I expected. I let it sit in my closet for about a year not knowing what to do with it or if I should do anything with it.

Brings us to today, I was hanging this old crappy Euro Thundercats or CosmoCats! I thought, this isn't worth Jaga's dick. I should just use it as a back drop for my sword. I then started to clip away! I came away with this!
I'm pretty excited about this. Came out great. It did take some patience but it paid off. My free handed Sword of Omens pops right off the comics. I like this so much I think I am going to pull this off with my four 1st print issues of the Dark Knight Returns. I have a pretty beat up trade book I can cut up. Just finding the right frame will be the tricky part. I'll post if it comes out well.

Top 10: SNES Cover art

I have a odd love for game art. Maybe its from my days of rushing to the toy department at my local Meijer or Toys R Us(which had the pictures you flip to look at the back.. Oh wait they still have it.) to see the latest games. Back then you didn't really know release dates. The games just showed up in the case for me to drool over.

The cover art used to be your whole choice if you were lucky enough to be buying a game that day. A few games I can remember buying solely based on the cover are:
-Final Fight
-Mortal Kombat 2
-Michael Jordan Chaos in the windy city
-Any of the three Star Wars games
-WWF Royal Rumble
-Bulls vs Blazers

I am glad I still own these boxes.

I think cover today is just awful. Just a bunch of faces most the time.

Here is some honorable mentions.
-Zelda: Link to the Past. Very simple but the black border with the gold Zelda logo just screams greatness at you.
-Bulls vs Blazer. My favorite NBA team on a SNES box? I'm in.
-Super Metroid. Its a great cover but I never played the game through until last year so the effect isn't as great on me
-Royal Rumble(its still real to me damnit!). All my favorite wrestlers(Bret Hart!) with a terrible looking chair photo shopped in with the classic Royal Rumble logo. Man wrestling used to be awesome.

10.Super Punch Out

No Mike Tyson? No problem. Not many games could survive losing its main character and see another game. This game did it since the other cartoonish characters are so great. You get to see three great ones on the cover with the huge gloves. I played this into the ground. Its way easier then the NES game but I think its more fun

9.Michael Jordan Chaos in the Windy City
Not the best game in the world but damn I loved the cover. I remember buying it at a Kaybee store. I loved MJ and he was holding a ice ball and a ball that is on fire. At this point this was all I cared about. Michael Jordan and SNES. It only made sense to buy it.

8.NBA Jam TE
They took the old cover and blew it out of the water with TE. BOOOOMMMSHHHHAAAAKKKAAALLLKKKAAA! I beat my brother 148 to 42 and he never played me again(Washington Bullets FTW).

7.Barts Nightmare
Look at the great colors and all characters. Its funny, its fun and you even get the artists name in the corner. I sold this one on ebay which I regret. This screams buy me. I did and I enjoyed the game. It was hard and frustrating which had me going "Duh!"

6.Mortal Kombat II
Again the cover just sold it for me. The font and color of the font. The globs of blood that followed made me feel so cool for playing a "adult game".

5. Super Castlevania IV
I discovered this game only 2 years ago. I am sad I missed it in its prime. The art is something that looks like its straight from a fan. Its so dark and there is no way I would have passed this up at the store as a kid if I would have noticed it.

4.Final Fight
This cover is so bad ass. I remember starring at it for weeks at the store and had no idea what it was. I got it for Christmas and the game lived up to the hype that cover brought. Its to bad that 2nd and 3rd games have some of the worst cover art.

3.Super Mario World
Its classic, the colors just pop. It sold systems. Its amazing all around. It made ask "what the hell is that green dinosaur?" WHY IS MARIO RIDING A DINOSAUR?!?!?

2.Turtles in Time
My god this thing is amazing. I loved Time Travel as a kid and then TMNT? MOTHER OF GOD... The cover is aggressive and resembles nothing of the cartoon which is awesome. I begged my mom for days.. I mean days. She finally broke and bought it. My friends and I played until the sun came up.

1.Super Mario Kart
I am proud to say I own this box still in like perfect condition. Its just pretty to look at. You get all the characters and the colors pop off the box. The art just says "Yes that is right. Mario now drives in Kart races..BUY ME!" I think I got it for XMAS. I didn't do a whole lot of sledding on that break.

The Kenner Real Ghostbusters Fire House Restore.

I do remember the Christmas morning that I got it from Santa! My mom was dreading putting it together since the Thundercat Lair was such a pain. This took a lot less time and was a lot easier. I remember sticking my cat on the top floor and thinking it was the best thing ever. It was a great toy. I loved busting through the doors Ecto 1 and putting ghosts in the containment unit. My younger brother used it years later for fights with his Terminator toys.
While digging around on my mothers one day I found my Kenner Real Ghostbusters Fire House. It was in rough shape. Missing doors,no sign, dust and webs(with dead bugs!). I even wrote GB logos on it and wrote "Ghostbusters" over the door way in sharpie. A Power Ranger Black Ranger sticker found its way onto the building. The inside wasn't bad at all. Stickers were all in decent shape and the railings were fine.
I decided to paint it to look more like the movie fire house. I got some Black,Flat Grey and Brick Red. I of course hosed it down and tried my best to get all the dust out but it was really hard. Some of it was just like ingrained in the plastic. I wasn't to picky. I just wanted it to look new again and let my son play with it since he is getting into the Real Ghostbusters now.
I went ahead and found two doors on Ebay. Both cost me about $16 shipped per door. I tried getting my hands on the sign but would get bid up to $25 and $30 and I just couldn't take that pill. I'm just to cheap. Maybe down the line I'll get one or make one. I painted the roof black first and I planned on painting the doors black but in the end I just couldn't. I like the red doors to much. Next was the slate grey which wasn't to challenging. It did need a few coats to get all the yellowing to not show on the plastic.
\
Next was the red. This is where things got tough. My not so steady hands and cheap paint brushes made this a tough chore. Not hitting the grey seemed impossible at times. I had to go back and touch up the grey. The red took many coats to get the darkness I was looking for. It was also hard since my son wanted to stand over me on a chair and "help" while I did it and I am just better when its quiet.

In the end I am really happy with it. It looks 100x better. My son gave it a test run with my old GB figures and we put in my RGB DVDs and a Real Ghostbusters night. He really had a good time. He is in this destructive stage where he is really rough so I have to stay on him but I know this will be really fun for him in a few years. Next I plan on restoring my Ecto 1 which is really rough. I've already started my search for the stickers but have had little luck. There are some other great(better then mine) GB Fire House Restores on the net so check them out.
