8bitfetish:Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Back with the latest poster from 8bitfetish. I was going to go with The Legend of Zelda but changed my mind and decided to finish off the Turtle wall with the Original NES game. Now I know there is the Manhattan project but I never got into that one since the SNES had hit the scene at that point. I still think the cover art is great but I just don't connect with it.
Of course the poster is of 8bitfetish high quality with dark blacks and popping greens. It looks stunning next to the other two posters. I am glad I went this route. The cover of this game confused me as a kid cause they all had red. Instead of the blue, orange and purple. At that point I had no idea that the Turtles was even a comic. I just thought it was some mistake. I remember talking about the the cover art at the lunch table and asking friends if they noticed the mistake.

After reading the comics now, it came to light that this cover art came straight from TMNT issue 4.
Must be when they were coming up with ideas for covers some guy at the table said "Hey why don't we just rip a cover from one of the comics? Cheap and saves time!" I do love the cover art since its a intense battle and its just edging like the turtles should be but I do think it loses a few points for just ripping issue 4. Since Turtles was blowing up I am sure the game was pushed asap and that had something to do with it. In fact I would say more people identify this cover with the game more then the comic.
The game its self.... One of the most frustrating things you will ever pop into you're NES. This game was the first game I ever rented, I remember still loving it even though the game kicked my ass for hours. I even got it got Christmas.. See:
Now I could be frustrated everyday. Santa brought me the greatest Mario ever and coal basically. I will say I did play it like crazy despite how hard it was. It was the first turtle game and I didn't care how hard it was or that it was nothing like the show(you don't remember chain saw guy?) . I wanted to see Shredder so bad but it never happened. I could only reach the part where you drive the Turtle van around. I was dead meat after that. The game just throws a shit ton of bad guys at you with impossible platforming. That is why arcade(part 2) was such a big hit. It was like the cartoon and beatable. I still think its fun to play and revisit. But I can't take much of it. I like the cover art a lot more than the game. I want to thank 8bitfetish again for sending their amazing posters and if you are interested in buying this TMNT one you can find it here for $11.99 with fast and free S&H.

8bitfetish: Super Mario Bros 3

Oh my god... Not only was 8bitfetish nice enough to send me the usual awesome poster but also included a new Super Mario 3 T-Shirt! I can't thank them enough for this partnership where I get to review their great posters. Now I am getting a kick ass T-shirts? This blogger is flying high with a P-wing.

Mario 3 is well.. My favorite NES game ever and.... THE BEST MARIO EVER. One day I will have to do my top 10 Mario games as this would easily be number 1 for me. The cover art its self while might not be as pretty as SMB 2 it is way more iconic. Mario showing off its best power up ever in the raccoon tail. 8bitfetish's print is beautiful and the yellow just pops off the paper. If you would like your own you can find it here. Any Hardcore Nintendo fan needs this poster in their house. At $11.99 and free shipping saying no is just a crime.
The shirt is pretty damn awesome. Already a few people know its the SMB 3 and have gave me props. You can find the shirt here.

I remember the Christmas I got SMB 3 from Santa. I was pretty pumped since the game was hard to find do to it being so popular and if you were playing this game it meant you were pretty damn cool. As I played it through the Christmas break I would discover the flutes and what not. That is where the bragging would begin at school.
The game its self is I think is the most challenging of the Mario games. Its such a peer joy playing worlds 1-7 but once you get to world 8 you better hold onto your pants because this game has no mercy. You think its all fine too since you have built up so many lives... Its not fine... You will use them all more then likely. Hope you saved those P-wings. About a year ago I played it all night with a cousin of mine since he stated it was the only Mario he never beat. Around 4am in the morning we were battling for out lives. The tank and boat levels don't care about your feelings. Finally got to the castle and Bowser was kicking our ass(the hardest bowser battle easy). On guy zero I beat him.

There was a Mario 3 cartoon and I even loved that. Might have been one of the few kids to tune in every Saturday morning.
I really can't wait to play this game with my son. IMO might be the best video game ever or at least tied with Zelda OOT. I again want to thank 8bitfetish for the amazing shirt and poster and I would like to congragulate them on earning their 100th feedback on ebay with 100% satisfied customers! Christmas comes once a month in this household thanks to 8itfetish. Make sure you check out all their great posters and now... T-shirts!

8BITFETISH: Super Mario Bros 2

I want publicly apologize to 8bitFetish for not getting this up sooner. With me coaching varsity basketball and the kids I just got behind. Now with basketball over with I have way more free time to make it the store to get frames for these bad boys.
On to the poster! Next up is the black sheep of the SMB family. Super Mario Bros 2. The cover art is easier on the eyes then SMB3 with the blues and yellow letters. Of course 8bitfetish again has outdone themselves with high quality. The blue and yellow pop very nicely. I always thought the "Mario Madness" was sorta odd to put on the cover but pretty much anything and everything to do with SMB2 is pretty odd.
I remember the hype was pretty insane for this game(nothing like 3 though). Kids at school were all bragging they had the game before it even hit the stores. What we got was....well odd.. But not bad.. Just.. Not what we were expecting. Come to find out is pretty much a rip from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Pani.. So there is that. I spent the whole game not playing as Mario as I always used Princess since she floated. I beat the game twice in my life and never have played it much since. I do enjoy the ending of the game that explains the oddness of it. WARNING 27 YEAR OLD SPOILER A HEAD!!  ITS JUST A DREAM!
I like to thank 8bitfetish again for sending me another great poster that I could share with everyone. You can find this poster here for $11.99 and very fast FREE S&H!

8bitfetish:Knight Rider

My Knight Rider NES poster came from 8bitfetish! It came! It came! It really is in my opinion one the best Knight Rider images there is and it came from the NES cover art. 8bitfetish really out did there selves here. The deep reds look great! The yellow pops! It tops off my Knight Rider stuff just the way I wanted it to. If you are interested in picking up this bad boy for $11.99(free S&H) than you can find it here!
I remember when I was a kid I was so excited when I saw the Knight Rider game at the store. I begged my mom for it but she wouldn't have it. So I know I was waiting for Christmas or birthday which was a long way off. I was lucky enough that my uncle rented and we played it one night and I was so pumped. I couldn't believe I was about to play my favorite TV in a video game.... Well that where the excitement started and ended as it was just terrible from the start. It was great seeing Kitt in 8 bit form but outside of that the game is impossible. I haven't played it in some time so I can't recall a whole lot but I remember enjoying the turbo boosting but Kitt has rockets I think? Every car was an enemy running you off the road. It just wasn't fun.
Even though the game sucked I always got that warm fuzzy Knight Rider feeling when ever I saw the cover art. It just kicks ass and now looks great on my wall. I already have gotten complements on it during our Christmas party. Now I did get a few question on Twitter about the posters and got some answers.

Q: Why 13 x 19 sized poster?
A: 13x19 is a pretty good natural fit for the most part. It's also bigger than 17x11. And it's not too big or too small. Can fit a good amount on your walls. You really can't do that with 32x24.

Q: Do you take requests?
A: We do request. But it's not always going to happen.  It all depends how high the resolution is on an image.

The next poster comes in Jan and its features four heroes in a half shell who made my top 10 SNES covers. Like Bart Scott once said, "CAN'T WAIT!"

8bitfetish, knight rider, 8bits, nes, video games,

Did we just become best friends?

A few months ago I decided I needed to track down some NES cover art for my "me room"(Still no pictures..I know) and looked at some auctions on Ebay. I thought some had some pretty crappy looking quality. I found 8bitfetish which had a huge selection. The quality looked way better than the other options. They even have some classic video game scenes! I can't wait to see what more scenes they decide to push out. I decided to take the plunge and ordered the original Super Mario Bros and TMNT II The Arcade Game.

Got my order in a few days. The posters were a 13 x 19 and were full of 8 bits of awesomeness. Great colors, great quality poster and didn't break the bank($11.99+Free shipping). I am huge sucker for Nintendo box art from the NES and SNES days and I couldn't wait to get more.
The other day I was thinking I needed a NES Knight Rider poster to complement my Knight Rider display and I thought why not ask 8bitfetish to be my Friend?!?!? I mean I love Nintendo box art, their stuff is outstanding and its fast and cheap(oh yeah!). I contacted Steve the owner of 8bitfetish with the idea of getting one poster a month sent to me to review on SD80sK. So did he say yes?........ YES! I am excited to announce that SD80sK is partnering up with 8bitfetish! Reviewing Nintendo box posters sounds like a dream come true and the Knight Rider poster should be here any day! So please welcome them to the blog and go check out their amazing posters and their website(still under construction) and Ebay Store!

COOL CRAP:8bitdo NES30 blue tooth controller

Well I am huge em head and I have never been on board with playing my favorite SNES/NES games on my phone. The virtual game pad feels impossible to me. Like whats the point of dying and being terrible at SMB3? If I had my game controller I would be way better. I hated other 3rd party crap controllers that feels off, cheap and is just terrible. So I just stuck to my roms on my Wii or my 1st gen PSP which are both pretty good but my psp is huge and my Wii is well my Wii.

I gave up on any hope on a controller until now...

Its beautiful isn't? But is it functional? OH YES IT! 8bitdo did a amazing job with this thing. Such an amazing job I can't believe they haven't been sued into outer space. It feels like a real NES controller. From the rubber start button to the amazing but plastic d pad. I have carried this thing everywhere with me and even used it during boring trainings which now fly by as I don't pay attention to my job but play Super Castlevania 4. I have had random strangers come up to me in public and ask "is that what I think it is?" "Are you playing SNES on your tablet or phone?" They love trying it out and want one of their own but when I get into explaining Emulators and roms they look at me like I'm talking Spanish. Which I don't understand its not that hard. It also has some great features like being able to use it with the Wii(which I haven't yet),wall charger and being able to update the firmware. So how does it play?

NES Games

I've played a lot of different NES games with it and they play without a hitch. No lag and very responsive. I will say the set up was a bit confusing as the instructions didn't really help with how my devices(Note II and Nexus 7 Tab) hook up. I was pretty pissed that I could connect my controller to the device but the emulators were not picking it up. Well after searching the 8bitdo site I finally found a app that you download that helps do that. No where in the manual did it say that or what the hell I wasn't doing. Maybe it was just me being dumb and my user error but wasn't very clear how to get this thing rolling outside of connecting it by holding "Start" for 3 secs.
Back to the games. They all tested great and the lag was zero. I mean zero. I was playing Contra on my phone with no lag of any sort. It was amazing. I use Contra to always test out these things since the game mashing is so crazy and it just passed with flying colors. Mapping out the buttons was very easy. My only real gripe is the space of the "Y" and "A" button as they are farther then the real "B" and "A" button which makes sliding your fingers over a bit of a adjustment. But after a 30 mins that goes away the problem isn't much of one anymore.

SNES Games
I was worried about some lag with this one since SNES just demands more but again it preformed with no flaws. NBA JAM TE and MK3 played amazing. No button lag or screen. Lets talk triggers for a bit. This is basically a SNES pad put into NES form and the trigger work and push great but the straight corners can cause some pain after some extended playing where the original SNES pad is rounded and feel much better to the hand. Really if I had my choice I would want a SNES pad over the NES pad for that very reason. The triggers don't cause any issues in the playing but just in your hands.

So buy it?
Yes!! GO BUY IT NOW!  If you are a Em Head like me then this is a must for $33. Plus I know my kids down the road will be all over this when they are a bit older. I plan on buying a 2nd one before they get sued.. I hope not but damn I'd be shocked if they didn't. I don't leave home without this thing and it will make you the coolest kid err..adult at work.

Pros
-No lag
-Authentic feel
-High quality
-Works with the Wii
-Charges with Micro USB
-20+ hours of use

Cons
-Set up is a bit tricky
-SNES trigger pain

Check out Retro Collects review of the NES30 since its more technical and they are just better writers then me.

cool crap, nes, snes, video games, bits, 8bits, 16 bits,

rad reads thinks TMNT movie sucks.

Crooked Ninja rants about the new TMNT movie..

For a property aimed at kids these turtles are scary as hell. They literally look like roughed up Hulks shoved into battle damaged turtle shells. Their Shrek faces make no attempt at appealing to anyone which may or may not be caused by the absurd amount of growth hormone (mutagen) running through them.
Mikey: Trying way too hard to be funny. Uncomfortably horny.
Donny: Cliche geek. Oddly frog like. Needs glasses because turtles have nearsightedness.
Leo: Bland. Absolutely devoid of character. Has swords!!
Raph: Roid rage mixed with bouts of crying. Can throw shipping containers.
These versions of the turtles are like bad caricatures of what the turtles should be. They strip them down to the most simple form then add a bunch of garbage to them for appeal. Oh look Raph has some sick Ray Bans! You can’t just have them yell “Cowabunga” in the end for a cheap pop. Try harder.
I have to give him credit. He has always kept a open mind going into this movie and I was hating on it from the second I heard Bay was in charge. So its what we thought it was going to be.. A piece of shit Turtle movie that will hang with Turtles 3 as the worst of the bunch.

Crooked also shares about what looks to be a pretty awesome Turtle Doc.
It was released Aug 12th and I hope to watch it very soon. Maybe I will post my thoughts on it after viewing it. Pretty excited to see it.

Branded got his hands on the 30th Anniversary Ghostbusters record. Man I wish I would have picked this up.

typically not an avid collector of albums on vinyl since I don’t own a turntable and have pretty much all my favorite music at my fingertips digitally, but the allure of a glow in the dark Ghostbusters album that would look pretty darn rad up on the wall of Branded HQ was a bit too much for me to pass up!

The record looks great and I am pretty bummed I didn't get my hands on one.

Dinosaur Dracula got their hands on a 1986 Toys R us ad. Pretty great stuff.
If you’re my age, these were your first iPads. Speak & Spell, Speak & Read and Speak & Math were battery-operated handhelds that taught kids spelling, reading and, uh, mathing. I haven’t played with them in decades, but I can still remember their crude sound effects and weird robot voices.
I always wanted one soooo bad but my parents didn't care about helping me become a better student. I guess they knew I was a Dyslexic and had no hope anyway.

Top Hat Sasquatch Reviews TMN..errrrr Guardians of the Galaxy.
The opinions I’ve read from the people I trust basically let me know that the movie is terrible, and honestly all the people I’ve had telling me it’s good have had to preface their recommendations with things like “If you don’t think about it…” or “It’s just the Turtles…” which is bullshit to me.
We think a like. Unless my son forces me to watch it down the line. I doubt I see this. I just can't.
I could ramble for days about how much I love this movie, but the bottom line is that everything about this movie is well done. It’s written well, the direction, cinematography, and visual effects are all to notch, and the characters are great. Chris Pratt is perfect as Star-Lord and this movie will be seen as a defining moment in his career.
I pretty much agree with everything here. The movie was amazing and this movie will basically launch Chris Pratt into outer space.

Mike and James review the new TMNT. Same result... Not good. Mattel doing more Ghostbuster figures. They have done such a poor job with this line. I hope Neca gets the licence back. We will see. 38 bucks gets you the best Rom NES controller I've seen yet. MUST HAVE ONE!!!

8-bits: Super Spy Hunter NES

How this works: I have all the NES and SNES roms(if you would have given me such a machine in 1992 I would have locked myself in my room and lost touch with reality) on my wii. I close my eyes and scroll through the list and whatever I land on I play.

Cover art rating: 3bits out of 8bits.
1-bit: The game is like Contra but in a car. Dodge this, power up this and impossible boss fights.
2-bit: There are cheap moments like when the screen isnt fast enough and you jump in the "deep" part of the water and your boat/car sinks? It makes no sense... I know its a boat.
3-bit: You can change your guns positioning. Front, sides and back. You have to be quick but its pretty cool and works well.
4-bit: They are more then fair with power ups and lives to keep you going.
5-bit: When you take these turns the game does this thing disorienting thing that throws you off
6-bit: Music is ok... Nothing to wrote home about.
7-bit: Game is challenging but not over difficult. The boss battles are a bit cheap but keep you coming back for more. Not a power off frustration.
8-bit: I was pretty lucky to pick this game. There is a ton of shit on the list and this was fun and some what addicting. I've never played it before I'll be coming back to this one for sure. I didn't really touch on the graphics but its a great looking game. Pushed the hardware pretty well here.
